Honda Celebrates 60 Years In America…By Restoring A Chevy Pickup?

Honda Celebrates 60 Years In America…By Restoring A Chevy Pickup? The history of American Honda Motor Co. is long and built upon the backs of American pickup trucks.

Honda purchased a small fleet of 1961 Chevy half-tons to deliver is motorcycles to dealers across Southern California when the brand first started in the US. It was these truck that helped Honda gain a foothold in the US motorcycle market, and by 1965, Honda was the best-selling motorcycle brand in America.

To celebrate American Honda’s 60th anniversary, Honda tracked down a 1961 Chevy half-ton and restored it to match it’s delivery trucks of the past, including the factory-correct white paint and hand-painted graphics. The truck is sitting in the lobby of American Honda’s Torrance, Calif. headquarters and will also be on display at the 2019 SEMA Show.

The truck itself has a 238 cubic inch V8 under the hood making 160 hp paired to a three-speed manual. In the bed you’ll find a 1965 Honda 50 next to a Honda CB160.

Eventually this Chevy will find itself in the American Honda Collection Hall in Torrance, where it will be staged in front of a replica of the original LA Honda office, just like in the iconic photo you see below…
